Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Nairobi-Amboseli National Park
You will be picked up from your Nairobi accommodation at 8:30 a.m. to drive past the scenic Athi Plains and into the bushy country of Amboseli National Park. Arrive on time at your camp or lodge for lunch, and thereafter go for an evening game drive. Amboseli National Park is dominated everywhere by the glistening, majestic snowcap of the mighty Mount Kilimanjaro, a fitting backdrop to the wild region. After lunch, experience an afternoon Kenya Safari game drive at the foot of Africa's highest mountain.
Dinner and overnight will be at Amboseli Sopa Lodges.
Day 2: Amboseli National Park
Today, you have two options. First, after breakfast, proceed for a morning game drive and wildlife viewing in the park, and return back to the camp or lodge around midday for your sumptuous lunch. Relax after lunch while waiting for your evening game drive at 4:00 p.m. when the weather cools down and the wildlife is active. Amboseli is famous for its big game, including elephants, lions, herds of buffaloes, zebras, and wildebeests, and its great scenic beauty. The landscape is dominated by Mount Kilimanjaro (the highest peak in Africa) and "floating" elephants within the swamps, whose permanent waters zip down from the mountain. Later in the evening, on the Kenya Safari, return back to your Amboseli Sopa Lodge lodge for dinner and overnight.
For your second option, after breakfast, depart the camp or lodge with a packed lunch for a full-day Kenya Safari game drive. Stop to enjoy your picnic lunch at the observation hill, which, on a clear day, affords you views of Kilimanjaro in the distance. Continue with game viewing after lunch, and return to the Amboseli Sopa Lodges in the evening for dinner and overnight.
Dinner and overnight will be at Amboseli Sopa Lodges.
Day 3: Amboseli National Park - Lake Nakuru National Park
You will depart after an early breakfast by road for the ornithological paradise of Lake Nakuru National Park which supports a wide ecological diversity of flamingos and other water birds. Over 450 bird species have been recorded there. Arrive at around 12:30 p.m. and begin the Kenya Safari game drive en route to your accommodation for check-in and lunch. Get settled in and relax until 4:00 p.m. where you will head on for another game drive and nature walk along the lake shores and return to your accommodation before sunset.
Dinner and overnight at Amboseli Sopa Lodges.
Day 4: Lake Nakuru National Park - Masai Mara Game Reserve
After breakfast, depart for a journey south along the floor of the dramatic Great Rift Valley to Masai Mara National Reserve, an extension of Tanzania's Serengeti National Park, also known as the seventh wonder of the world because of the great wildebeest migration, witnessed every year between June and September.
Millions of wildebeest and zebra cross the Mara River from Serengeti National Park in Tanzania to Masai Mara Game Reserve in Kenya in search of food and water, and it is famous for its wide variety of resident wildlife all year round. Stop for lunch at Narok Town and arrive at Masai Mara National Reserve in time for an afternoon game drive where you may have a chance of seeing the "Big Five" in Kenya Safari, different varieties of birdlife, and the best savannah vegetation in the world.
This is a serene, vast country of breathtaking vistas, a panorama of vast rolling plains and rounded hills, and intermittent groves of acacia woodlands and dense thickets of scrub. The Mara River and its tributaries are bordered by luxuriant riverine forests that bisect the landscape. The famous Masai tribesmen live within the dispersal area of the game reserve. And in every direction, there are seemingly endless herds of game animals.
Return to the Amboseli Sopa Lodges for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Masai Mara Game Reserve
Today, at Kenya Safari, you will enjoy a full-day game drive to absorb the beauty and splendor of the Mara. In this country of breathtaking vistas, view its vast assemblages of plains game together with their associated predators. The Mara has the largest population of lions to be found in Kenya. You will have a picnic lunch at the Mara River, where you can enjoy your box lunch while watching crocodiles and hippos laze around in their natural habitat. This is a great way to take advantage of your time in the park and enjoy seeing the views below and all around you. After lunch, continue your game drive in search of more wildlife.
You will be dropped off at the Masai village at 5:00 p.m. for an opportunity to visit the Masai people to witness the singing and dancing that are part of their daily lives and sacred rituals. Upon arrival at the village, proceed for a Kenya Safari nature walk with the Masai naturalist guide. You will get to see herbs that are used as medication among the Masai.
Return to the village where a campfire will be lit. Entertainment from both women, children, and men of the village will follow with a chance for you to join in their dancing. The chief will then give you stories of their culture and tradition, and they will show you how the herbs seen during the nature walk are prepared and used. You will also have a glimpse into their homes and social structure. Dinner will be served at the village, followed by coffee and tea as you leave to return to the camp or lodge overnight. Tonight at Kenya Safari, you will have the option to choose to sleep in an authentic Masai-style home with beds, located at the campsite (subject to availability).
Return to the Amboseli Sopa Lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 6: Masai Mara Game Reserve – Nairobi
Take an early-morning Kenya Safari game drive into the park and then return to the camp or lodge for a full breakfast. Say goodbye to the Masai Mara Game Reserve as you begin your leisurely return drive back to Nairobi, arriving in the late afternoon. Your trip will come to an end with a drop-off at your accommodation.
